LIVING WITH YOUR HOST FAMILY: Open your mind and your heart. If you open your mind and your heart to this new experience, you will quickly feel a part of the family. Being willing to join in their family time and activities will show the family you are interested in them.
HOST FAMILY RULES: It is important to learn and understand any rules set by your host family. If you have questions about the rules, please ask. Respecting the rules will help everyone in the household get along and will help build trust with each other.
SCHOOL RULES: Feel free to ask your exchange “parent”, “brother” or “sister” for guidelines about your new school before arrival. Electronic devices may not be as permissible as in our Ontario schools. Be prepared!
If you expect everything to be the same as it is in your home and in your classroom, this may not be the program for you!
If circumstances change and your family cannot host after your reciprocal exchange, families will compensate CISPI up to $1000 to find an alternative homestay family or to compensate the offshore family who can no longer complete the exchange. CISPI and partners will determine the fee at their discretion taking into account flights, availability of alternate accommodations, etc.
For serious violations during the exchange including but not limited to theft, bullying, weapons, alcohol and other drug violations, Canadian participants will be dismissed from the program and parents will be responsible for immediate transportation arrangements to bring their child home at their expense. Participants are responsible for any damage they purposefully cause in their homestay, in the community or in the offshore school.
You are an ambassador for Canada during this exchange. Along with that responsibility you are also a representative of your school district, your school and most importantly your family. You have been accepted into the school exchange program in partnership with Canada International Student Placement Inc. Your codes of conduct in your home school and school district are to be followed during the entire exchange. Consequences consistent with the Ontario school board policies will result for infractions.
